Border Post "Karasu" Reopens After 15 Years
The "Karasu" border post on the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border has reopened after a 15-year hiatus. Located in the Andijan region, the post has been renovated and now covers over 3 hectares, with a capacity to process more than 12,000 people per day.
The reopening follows agreements between the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. This development significantly shortens the travel distance between Kyrgyzstan's Osh and Jalal-Abad regions from 120 km to just 19 km via Uzbekistan.
Since 2017, trade between the two countries has tripled, and the volume of border crossings has increased sevenfold.
