Kyrgyzstan Celebrates Ak Kalpak Day
On March 5, Kyrgyzstan marks Ak Kalpak Day, a national celebration dedicated to the country’s traditional felt hat, which holds deep historical and cultural significance. The Ak Kalpak symbolizes wisdom, honor, and the national identity of the Kyrgyz people.
Established by a parliamentary resolution in 2016, Ak Kalpak Day aims to preserve and promote Kyrgyz heritage. On this day, cultural events and educational initiatives highlight the importance of this national symbol in Kyrgyz history and traditions.
The Ak Kalpak is recognized as an integral part of Kyrgyz culture, and in 2019, Kyrgyzstan proposed including it in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
