Director of the IICA Javlon Vakhabov Meets with Congressman Vicente Gonzalez
During his working visit to Washington, D.C., Javlon Vakhabov, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), met with U.S. Representative Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, Co-Chair of the Congressional Uzbekistan Caucus.

The meeting focused on key areas of Uzbekistan–U.S. cooperation, including strengthening interparliamentary dialogue, expanding trade and investment ties, and advancing engagement on regional and international issues. Particular attention was given to Uzbekistan’s role in Central Asia, the development of the C5+1 format, and new opportunities for practical partnership between the two countries.

Javlon Vakhabov commended Congressman Gonzalez’s contribution to promoting sustained bipartisan support for Uzbekistan in the U.S. Congress. It was noted that his work as Co-Chair of the Congressional Uzbekistan Caucus has helped strengthen congressional attention to Uzbekistan and build a long-term foundation for the further development of bilateral relations.

The sides also discussed efforts to advance legislation aimed at repealing outdated restrictions related to the Jackson–Vanik Amendment. It was emphasized that this issue is important not only for expanding trade and investment, but also in the context of supporting Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

Congressman Gonzalez reaffirmed his interest in further strengthening the partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, including through deeper parliamentary contacts, expanded business engagement, and the promotion of practical initiatives in critical minerals, energy, infrastructure, finance, and technology.
