The discussion focused on expanding partnership in transport and energy, and strengthening trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Xinjiang and Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region.
Chairman Tuniyaz noted that sustained engagement at the highest levels had helped deepen political dialogue, generate new ideas and advance joint initiatives. The regional government head also underscored his 2024 visit to Uzbekistan and the meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which laid the foundation for closer cooperation in trade, investment, transport, agriculture and education.
Amb.Vakhabov highlighted the perspectives for expanding Uzbekistan-Xinjiang partnership by increasing bilateral trade, diversifying its structure, deepening industrial cooperation, and making broader use of dry ports, logistics hubs and cross-border infrastructure.
Particular attention was drawn to Xinjiang’s geographic position as China’s western gateway and a key link with Central Asia. Xinjiang is the only region of China that shares borders with three Central Asian states at once - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Xinjiang accounts for around 40% of China’s total trade with the region, underscoring its central role in advancing trade.
The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway was also a key part of the discussion. Starting in Kashgar and extending to the Andijan Region, the route will directly link China with Uzbekistan’s railway network, strengthen regional connectivity and open up additional freight corridors across Central Asia towards Europe, Turkey and the Middle East.
For Central Asian states, the new railway will also broaden access to the Chinese market and strengthen links with China’s eastern ports, transport networks and industrial infrastructure.
The participants also expressed support for expanding partnerships between universities in Xinjiang and Uzbekistan with the assistance of the China-Central Asia Center for Educational Exchange and Cooperation, including the development of joint degree programs and professional training.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to maintain close engagement to strengthen the partnership between Uzbekistan and Xinjiang, with particular emphasis on enhancing the role of the Andijan Region as a strategic hub linking XUAR with other parts of Uzbekistan.
