On May 13 this year, research fellows of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), Nozimabonu Mansurova and Samandar Ismailov, took part in a roundtable of young scholars titled “Central Asia and the New Security Architecture in Eurasia.”

The event was organized by the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences and was dedicated to the Institute’s 60th anniversary.

The roundtable brought together representatives of leading analytical, research and educational institutions of Uzbekistan and Russia, including experts from the Center for Central Asian Studies of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IICA, the Center for Foreign Policy Studies and International Initiatives, and the Institute for Advanced International Studies.

During the discussions, participants reviewed current trends in regional security in Eurasia, as well as ongoing development processes in Central Asia amid global turbulence.

In her remarks, IICA Research Fellow N. Mansurova noted that in recent years Central Asia has demonstrated steady progress in strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation. According to her, the region is gradually shaping its own model of interaction, based on trust, political will, and the pursuit of mutually acceptable solutions to the most pressing issues.

IICA Research Fellow S. Ismailov focused on regional security issues, including water and climate-related challenges. It was noted that water security is becoming one of the key factors in the sustainable development of Central Asia and requires coordinated practical measures, including the development of monitoring systems, the modernization of water management infrastructure, and the strengthening of regional cooperation mechanisms.

Concluding the event, participants emphasized the importance of continuing expert dialogue between think tanks of Uzbekistan and Russia in order to strengthen scientific and analytical cooperation and expand professional contacts.
