IICA Researcher completes research internship in Tajikistan
Researcher from the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), Samandar Ismailov, undertook a research internship in Dushanbe.

As part of the internship, he participated in the Central Asian Security Forum titled “Central Asia’s Security Architecture: Contemporary Challenges, Threats and Strategic Opportunities.”

During the event, participants discussed key issues of regional security, including intraregional and transregional challenges and opportunities, socio-economic and transport-transit aspects of resilience, as well as the strategic prospects for Central Asia’s development amid geopolitical shifts.

In addition, S. Ismailov held a series of meetings with representatives of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, and members of the country’s expert community.

The discussions focused on approaches to expert support for regional processes, the development of information and analytical cooperation, and prospects for expanding professional contacts among research and analytical institutions in Central Asia.

Special attention was paid to opportunities for deepening cooperation between research institutes of the countries of the region, including through regular exchanges of views, joint expert discussions, and coordination of research agendas on pressing issues of regional development.

The IICA representative also familiarized himself with the activities of the Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. During the visit, the parties discussed issues related to Central Asia’s socio-economic development, demographic processes, the green economy, and prospects for conducting joint research in areas of mutual interest.

During his stay in Tajikistan, the IICA representative also got familiar with the activities of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tajikistan. Particular attention was paid to the information and analytical activities of the diplomatic mission, including monitoring the dynamics of Uzbek-Tajik relations, preparing analytical materials, and supporting research initiatives between the expert communities of the two countries.

The results of the internship contributed to strengthening professional contacts, facilitating the exchange of experience, and identifying new areas for long-term cooperation between the expert and academic communities of the two countries.
