The IICA and Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences explore opportunities for cooperation
Amb.Javlon Vakhabov, Managing Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), met with Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee, President Ga Guanghai of the Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences (XASS).

The parties exchanged views on regional and international developments and explored opportunities to advance Uzbekistan and Xinjiang think tank-to-think tank cooperation.

Ga Guanghai introduced the Academy's mission, key areas of work and research priorities. He also provided an overview of Xinjiang's evolving engagement with the Central Asian states.

Amb.Vakhabov highlighted the vast opportunities for expanding Uzbekistan-Xinjiang cooperation, calling for direct expert dialogue to explore the prospects of the China-Central Asia-West Asia Economic Corridor within the Belt and Road Initiative.

He singled out the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway as a crucial area for collaborative study. With the project now moving toward practical implementation, the focus is on developing infrastructure and driving comprehensive regional growth along the route via trade, logistics networks, digital connectivity, and clean energy.

In this context, Director Li Yanbin of the Institute of Central Asia of the XASS, highlighted the need for closer ties between policy institutes and think tanks in Uzbekistan and Xinjiang. He pointed out that such collaboration is vital for grasping regional trends and developing unified strategies to address common challenges.

Concluding the meeting, the parties agreed to scale up practical cooperation, including working visits and expert dialogues at both the bilateral level and across multilateral platforms.
