Andijan Region spotlights investment opportunities in Ürümqi
The International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), together with the Andijan Regional Administration and the Xinjiang Committee for the Promotion of International Trade, hosted a business conference in Ürümqi, bringing together representatives of Xinjiang's business community.

The event brought together more than 40 executives and representatives of leading companies from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region operating in heavy and chemical industries, logistics, renewable energy, construction materials manufacturing, and tourism.

Opening the conference, Liu Teng, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, presented the economic potential of Xinjiang and the prospects for expanding its cooperation with the Central Asian states. He noted that trade between Xinjiang and the five Central Asian countries reached $40 billion in 2025, remaining above the $39 billion for a third year. Xinjiang now accounts for around 40% of China's total trade with the region.

Amb.Javlon Vakhabov, Managing Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), highlighted Uzbekistan's economic potential. He emphasized that Uzbekistan is one of Central Asia's fastest-growing economies. As part of its wide-ranging economic reforms, the country has attracted nearly $150 billion in foreign investment in recent years, with $123 billion of that total secured over the past five years alone.

He also emphasized the new opportunities emerging for investors as Uzbekistan continues to strengthen its business support and financial infrastructure. A key milestone in this process is the establishment of the Tashkent International Financial Centre, which is expected to facilitate foreign investment and foster the development of a modern financial ecosystem.

The constitutional law adopted within this framework, which mandates the introduction of a special legal regime within the Center and the establishment of an international commercial court, will enhance legal guarantees for foreign investors. Participants will also benefit from a preferential tax regime and expanded opportunities for foreign exchange operations.

Deputy Governor Elmurod Ismailov of the Andijan Region, presented the region's industrial and investment potential. Among the promising areas for cooperation, he identified the automotive industry, textile and food manufacturing, agriculture, green energy, and the production of construction materials.

Special attention was devoted to the role of the Andijan Region in advancing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway route. It was noted that the region could emerge as a critical transport and logistics hub, as well as a center for the storage, distribution, and return loading of freight arriving via the new railway line.

Chinese entrepreneurs expressed interest in establishing manufacturing and logistics facilities within the region to produce semi-finished and finished goods, targeted for export to Europe, the United States, and other markets. The development of tourism routes integrating the historical and cultural heritage sites of Xinjiang and the regions of Uzbekistan was also identified as a promising area of focus.

Following the conference, the parties reaffirmed their interest in expanding direct business contacts, implementing joint investment projects, and actively participating in the upcoming Uzbekistan-China Business Forum, scheduled for October this year in Tashkent.
