NMMC Invests $23M to Expand Muruntau Mine
Uzbekistan's Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) is investing over $23 million to expand the Muruntau mine's capacity, the world's largest open-pit gold mine. The project will enhance rock mass transportation by 27 million cubic meters annually.
Key upgrades include a $8.2 million investment in the Northeast Cycle and Flow Technology Complex, boosting capacity by 15 million cubic meters per year, and a $15.3 million second conveyor line, adding 12 million cubic meters.

Ranked as the fourth-largest gold mining company globally, NMMC produced 2.9 million ounces in 2023. The Muruntau mine holds an estimated 4,500 tonnes of gold and will see future expansion to mine at depths of up to 1,050 meters.
