Uzbek Chess Masters Shine on the Global Stage
Uzbekistan’s chess prodigies continue to make headlines with impressive victories in international tournaments.
Nodirbek Yakubboev emerged victorious at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Chess Festival’s Masters Tournament, winning $30,000 in prize money after an undefeated performance.
His fellow countryman, Shamsiddin Vokhidov, also made a strong showing, finishing third and earning $7,050. Additionally, young star Afruza Khamdamova secured first place in the Ladies category.
Simultaneously, another Uzbek chess grandmaster, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, claimed 3rd-4th place at the prestigious Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis, USA, earning $40,000. Despite a challenging loss to Fabiano Caruana in the second round,
Abdusattorov bounced back with crucial wins, including a decisive victory over Jan Nepomniachtchi in the final round.
