Tajikistan's Population Soars to 10.5 Million
Tajikistan's population continues to grow at a steady rate of 2.2% annually, reaching 10.5 million by the start of 2025, according to Jamshid Nurmakhmadzoda, Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of Tajikistan.

In terms of demographics, the Uzbek community remains the largest ethnic minority in Tajikistan, making up around 11% of the population. This equates to roughly 1.2 million people, primarily residing in the northern and eastern regions, including cities like Khujand and Penjikent.

Birth registrations surged by 4.8% in 2024 compared to 2023, with growth seen across all regions. The capital, Dushanbe, saw a remarkable 9.9% rise. The fertility rate stands at 24.2 births per 1,000 people, while the mortality rate is 3.2 per 1,000. Women make up 49.3% of the population, and men 50.7%.

The trend is in line with global projections, with the UN predicting that by 2050, the number of people over 60 will outnumber those under 15. Remarkably, Tajikistan is home to 230 centenarians, including 112 women, underscoring the nation’s improved life expectancy.
