Trans-Afghan Railway Project Could Be Completed in 5 Years – Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan
The project is of strategic importance for expanding Uzbekistan’s and the region’s export corridors. The project is preliminarily valued at $4.6 billion.
The 647 km Trans-Afghan Railway will connect Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, offering the shortest route to seaports in the Arabian Sea. According to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, construction could take up to 5 years, with the feasibility study to be developed within 6 months. In its first phase, the line could carry up to 3 million tons of cargo annually, potentially rising to 15–20 million tons by 2040.
