IICA and Kuwait University Explore New Avenues for Cooperation in the Context of Central Asia–GCC Dialogue
The International Institute for Central Asia (IICA) hosted a meeting between Director Javlon Vakhabov and Dr. Haila Al-Mekaimi, Head of the Department of Political Science at Kuwait University and member of the Advisory Commission of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

During the discussion, J.Vakhabov and Dr. Al-Mekaimi exchanged views on the outcomes of the recent Central Asia–GCC Think Tank Forum, held on April 21–22 in Tashkent in partnership with the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation. Dr. Al-Mekaimi commended the relevance of the forum’s agenda and shared valuable recommendations for the forthcoming Expert Report. The two sides also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Central Asia–GCC Heads of State Summit scheduled to take place in Samarkand.

A key focus of the meeting was the enhancement of academic collaboration between IICA and Kuwait University. Opportunities were discussed for joint research, expert exchanges, and cooperation in political science, economics, cultural studies, education, and interregional engagement.

Both parties expressed confidence that expanding institutional ties will contribute meaningfully to the development of a sustainable expert dialogue and closer cooperation between their respective institutions.

Dr. Haila Al-Mekaimi is a distinguished scholar in the field of political developments in the Gulf region. She plays an active role in formulating policy recommendations within the GCC framework and is a strong advocate for advancing academic partnerships across the region.
