IICA experts met with experts of the Research Center for the Geopolitics of Central Asia
The International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICA) hosted a delegation from the Research Center for the Geopolitics of Central Asia (CGCA) of Xinjiang University (PRC), headed by Prof.Han Jun.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the agreements reached during the IICA delegation’s visit to Urumqi in July 2026. The parties also exchanged views on international and regional developments, the evolving dynamics in Central Asia, and prospects for expanding educational and expert cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.

At the beginning of the discussion, participants were provided with detailed information on current regional cooperation processes in Central Asia, the development of “C5+1” formats, and the role of think tanks in these processes.

Prof. Han Jun noted that Central Asia is experiencing significant transformation, marked by growing mutual trust and the development of institutional mechanisms for cooperation.

CGCA experts emphasized that the government of China attaches great importance to developing cooperation with Central Asia and promoting the “Central Asia–China” format.

Following the successful summits held in Xi’an and Astana, the institutional and regulatory framework for this mechanism was established within a relatively short period of time.

The meeting also addressed opportunities to expand expert cooperation between IICA and CGCA, including conducting joint research, exchanging experts and developing an expert dialogue.

In conclusion, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue active efforts to deepen the partnership within the framework of bilateral cooperation and multilateral platforms.

In July 2026 in Urumqi, IICA and CGCA signed a Partnership Agreement aimed at developing long-term cooperation, conducting joint research and expert events, exchanging analytical materials, and implementing educational and research projects.
