IICA Director Meets with Keio University Professor
Javlon Vakhabov, Managing Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), met with Professor Yoko Hirose, Deputy Director of the Keio Global Research Institute (KGRI), to discuss the evolving landscape of Uzbekistan-Japan relations and regional cooperation.

The discussion focused on strengthening the "Central Asia plus Japan" framework and expanding expert-level engagement between the two nations.

Director Vakhabov outlined IICA’s strategic priorities, providing an in-depth briefing on current regional dynamics and the outcomes of the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, held in Tashkent in 2025.

He underscored that last year’s inaugural "Central Asia + Japan" Summit in Tokyo – the first in 20 years of partnership provided significant momentum for multilateral ties.

Professor Hirose reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to deepening ties with Central Asian states, noting the vast potential for collaboration in science and education.

She emphasized that shared perspectives on global issues provide a solid foundation for advancing sustainable development, digital transformation, and cultural exchange.

Recognizing the vital role of think tanks, the sides agreed that sustained expert dialogue is essential to implementing the agreements reached during the Tokyo Summit.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to fostering closer ties between academic and analytical institutions, including the organization of joint initiatives.

The Keio University was established in 1858. It’s Japan’s oldest private institution of higher learning and a premier research hub, boasting an extensive network of over 30 specialized research centers.

The Keio Global Research Institute (KGRI) serves as the university’s primary coordinator for international research, spearheading projects focused on global security and sustainability.
