IICA Managing Director met with Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan
Javlon Vakhabov, Managing Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), met with Won Do Yeon, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan.

The discussions focused on reviewing the current state and future trajectory of the bilateral partnership, strengthening regional cooperation within the "Central Asia + Korea" framework, and deepening engagement between the two nations' leading think tanks.

Javlon Vakhabov emphasized that the inaugural Central Asia–Korea Summit, scheduled for September 16-17 in Seoul, will establish a robust foundation for enhanced interregional cooperation. This milestone event is expected to catalyze new projects across high-priority sectors, including critical minerals, energy, digital transformation, agriculture, and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Won Do Yeon commended the upward momentum of bilateral relations, highlighting the intensified cooperation in political, economic, and technological spheres. He underscored the upcoming summit's role as a pivotal platform for consolidating the strategic interregional partnership.

Both parties stressed the importance of expanding ties between their respective analytical centers. They noted that a sustained expert-level dialogue is essential to bolstering both the Uzbekistan-Korea partnership and the broader "Central Asia + Korea" format.

Concluding the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation through closer institutional alignment.

The "Central Asia + Korea" cooperation framework was established in 2007 as the first "C5+" platform. Since its inception, the forum has held 17 ministerial-level meetings. The initiative to elevate the dialogue to a summit level was proposed by President Yoon Suk Yeol in 2024 during his state visit to Central Asia.
