IICA Expert Attends the School on Central Asia
N.Abdusattorov, Leading Research Fellow at the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), took part in the international academic and educational program “The School on Central Asia” held in Dushanbe.

The event was organized by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Geopolitical Studies of the Russian-Tajik Slavonic University, and Tajik National University.

The program brought together members of the expert community and young researchers from Central Asia and Russia and included panel discussions on key issues related to regional security and sustainable development in Central Asia.

In his remarks, N. Abdusattorov focused on mechanisms for ensuring collective and national security, emerging threats, and the strengthening of the regional security architecture, including the implementation of decisions adopted at the Consultative Meetings of Central Asian Heads of State.

It was noted that countries in the region are increasingly moving toward a more connected and predictable model of cooperation based on trust, coordination, and shared interests, creating new opportunities to enhance resilience and long-term stability.

The IICA expert emphasized that a coordinated security framework has been steadily taking shape in recent years. Since 2024, regular meetings of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of Central Asian states have been held. Building on this process, 2025 saw the first meeting of heads of intelligence agencies in Tashkent, followed by the first meeting of defense ministers in Samarkand in October.

He also noted that proposals developed within this framework were institutionalized at the Central Asian Heads of State Summit in Tashkent in November 2025, where the Concept of Regional Security and Stability and the Central Asia Risk Catalogue were adopted.

Discussions also covered expanding cooperation in trade, investment, transport and logistics, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.

Following the event, participants emphasized the importance of expert dialogue and the exchange of practical approaches in developing coordinated solutions and shaping a long-term regional agenda.

The Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, established in 2010, implements educational and expert initiatives aimed at promoting international cooperation.

The School on Central Asia is the Fund’s annual program dedicated to current issues of cooperation between Central Asia and Russia. Since 2016, it has been held on a rotating basis across the region, bringing together young researchers and experts.

In 2022, the program was hosted in Uzbekistan at IICA, followed by Bishkek last year. The next session will once again take place in Tashkent.
