During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current regional and international developments and discussed prospects for strengthening expert-level cooperation.
At the outset of the discussion, Mr. Vakhabov emphasized that the historic decision to invite Azerbaijan to join the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia was adopted during Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in November of last year. This milestone marked the emergence of a broader framework for cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
For his part, Mr. Shafiyev highlighted the positive momentum in Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations. He noted the regular high-level contacts that continue to drive the steady development of the full spectrum of bilateral ties. In this context, special attention was given to the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Baku on May 18 to participate in the World Urban Forum.
It was underscored that Uzbekistan is a strategic partner and ally of Azerbaijan, while the participation of both countries in the Consultative Meetings format creates additional opportunities for advancing multifaceted cooperation.
The parties also discussed prospects for establishing a “Central Asia–South Caucasus” dialogue format as an independent platform for regional engagement. In addition, they reviewed issues related to cooperation within multilateral organizations and international mechanisms.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation under the existing Joint Action Plan signed in February this year. They also reaffirmed their mutual interest in organizing thematic roundtables ahead of major international events and significant commemorative dates.
