Opportunities to Advance the Central Asia–UK Format Discussed at IICA
Javlon Vakhabov, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), held a meeting with Chris Allan, Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the UK Foreign Office, and Timothy Smart, UK Ambassador to Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed priority areas for further developing cooperation within the Central Asia–UK format against the backdrop of growing global instability, as well as ways to strengthen ties between think tanks across the regions.

Javlon Vakhabov noted that the Central Asia–UK format holds significant potential, particularly in expanding trade and investment cooperation, enhancing transport and logistics connectivity, and deepening engagement between think tanks and research institutions.

In this context, he outlined IICA’s plans to co-organize events with Central Asian and UK research institutions, which would serve as a sustainable platform for regular expert dialogue and the development of practical recommendations to advance interregional cooperation.

For his part, Chris Allan emphasized that, amid increasing global instability, strengthening partnerships with different regions and promoting more resilient forms of multilateral cooperation are becoming especially important.

It was also noted that Azerbaijan’s participation in the Central Asian cooperation format opens additional opportunities for advancing Trans-Caspian connectivity and implementing joint projects with European partners, particularly in transport and logistics, as well as electricity transmission – areas of clear relevance to the United Kingdom.
