The event brought together students and early-career researchers from leading universities in Europe and the United States, such as the University of Washington, the University of St Andrews, the French Institute of Geopolitics, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the University of Bremen, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and Goethe University Frankfurt.
Opening the session, Ambassador Vakhabov introduced participants to IICA’s work, its role in advancing regional studies, and its research priorities aimed at supporting multilateral dialogue and regional cooperation.
The discussion then focused on current trends in regional cooperation, the evolving dynamics of intergovernmental relations in Central Asia, and the development of joint international initiatives.
Participants also explored the “Central Asia+” formats, including Azerbaijan’s involvement, as well as the outcomes of the Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State. These mechanisms, it was noted, continue to support joint projects, strengthen regional dialogue, and advance the institutionalization of cooperation.
The session wrapped up with an open discussion, with students sharing their perspectives and asking questions about the region’s development.
