"There is no doubt that our national clothing, starting with the ak kalpak, reflecting the image of a mountain top, is the oldest, proudest, most important and most comfortable element of Kyrgyz culture. Even in today's era of globalisation, it is impossible to imagine a Kyrgyz child without an ak kalpak," Sadyr Japarov said.
He added that the future will judge us by our attitude to national values, traditions and history, and therefore the current generation must continue the great tradition of our ancestors.
This holiday has been celebrated in the country since 2011 on the initiative of film director Yrysbek Jabirov. In 2019, the ak kalpak was inscribed by UNESCO on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity under the title "Traditional ways of making men's headdresses of the Kyrgyz people and the culture of wearing them".
