Turkmenistan and the EU sign Protocol to the Partnership and Co-operation Agreement
The signing of the Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Turkmenistan and the EU took place on Monday 18th March in Brussels at the European Union Council building.

The ceremony was held during a meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Belgium's Permanent Representative to the EU Willem van de Worde, which was also attended by Michael Siebert, Managing Director of the European External Action Service for Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the OSCE, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

Belgium currently holds the presidency of the EU Council, the release said.

On the same day, Rashid Meredov met with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala, with whom they discussed the current state and prospects of EU co-operation with Turkmenistan.

The Foreign Minister also held talks with Simon Mordue, Chief Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of the European Council. The sides noted the interest in continuing co-operation in the fields of green energy, transport, technological interconnectivity and other areas. They stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, as well as interaction within the EU-Central Asia format.

The diplomats also discussed issues on the international and regional agenda. Turkmenistan's positive role in maintaining security and stability in the region was highlighted.
