Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Settle Border Dispute
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have reached a historic agreement on their shared border, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov confirmed. The deal is now in its final stages, with official approvals and demarcation expected to be completed within two years.
The agreement considers both nations' interests, resolving disputes over nearly 1,000 km of border. Some contested areas were split, while interwoven villages required special arrangements. Residents affected by the new borders will be relocated.
In December, both governments completed the description of the remaining disputed sections, and final documentation is now in progress. Officials aim to ratify the agreement, setting the stage for a historic resolution to a decades-long dispute.
